Excerpts from,
The First Epistle of
JOHN
Excerpts from,
The First Epistle of
JOHN
1 John 1:5-6
[5]This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
[6]If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
1 John 1:8-9
[8]If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
[9]If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Proverbs 28:13
[13]He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.
1 John 1:10
[10]If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
Why is this?
Romans 3:23
[23]For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 11:32
[32]For God has committed them all to disobedience, that He might have mercy on all.
Galatians 3:22
[22]But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
Interesting thing here I noticed in the above two scriptures, in that they both confirm the following scripture found in John 1:1
John 1:1
[1]In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
"Scripture has confined all under sin...", here Scripture refers to the Word!
"God has committed them all to disobedience..", the Word is God!
...thus God, the Word, and the Holy Spirit are One, which is a confirmation of the Trinity.
1 John 2:3-4
[3]Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.
[4]He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1 John 2:15-17
[15]Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
[16]For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not of the Father but is of the world.
[17]And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
1 John 2:18
[18]Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour.
1 Peter 4:7-8
[7]But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.
[8]And above all things have fervent love for one another, for "love will cover a multitude of sins."
Matthew 22:36-40
[36]"Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?"
[37]Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'
[38]"This is the first and great commandment.
[39]"And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
[40]"On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
